POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES

Reporting directly to the Associate Dean for Student Services, the Director for Special Student Support Services will supervise and coordinate the services of three specific units within the Special Student Support Services department: Office of Student Disability Services, Psychological Services and Health Services.

In each area, responsibilities include:

* Development, delivery and evaluation of services in accordance and in compliance with applicable College and University policies and procedures as well as Federal, State and Local guidelines and regulations.

* Leadership and professional supervision to ensure that students receive services that conform to the highest professional and ethical standards.

* Providing comprehensive and timely reports on the scope and quality of services and developing mechanisms for ongoing and systematic evaluation and assessment of services, which provide input and data for the Divisional and College performance assessment.

* Outreach efforts to ensure that students, faculty and staff are aware of the full range of services offered and conducting needs-related workshops for students, faculty and staff.

* Developing and maintaining manuals of policies and procedures and ensure that each area is familiar with CUNY and College policies.

* Developing strategic relationships with community resources to facilitate appropriate referrals for students.

* Oversight of departmental/unit budgets, including auxiliary budgets and applicable institutional and external resources and funding.

Specific Responsibilities in each area are as follows:

Disability Services:

The Director will ensure efficient and seamless services for students with disabilities and will be responsible for advocacy for disabled students. Responsibilities include coordination, delivery and monitoring of available services, advisement and referrals for students, including meeting with faculty and administrators, as needed and training and supervision of full-time and part-time staff within the unit. He/She will ensure development and presentation of educational and information awareness workshops for the campus community and will work with faculty, staff and students within the College and CUNY-wide to promote inclusion and disability awareness.

Psychological Services:

The Director will coordinate the delivery of services of this unit, including overseeing the scheduling and implementation of the range of psychological counseling services provided by faculty and staff within the unit.

Health Services:

The Director will supervise the staff and ensure delivery of programs and services, including reports on Immunization requirements for students. He/She will have oversight of the development and implementation of preventive and maintenance health care and health related educational programs for the students.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

A Master's Degree in counseling, psychology, clinical psychology or disability studies. Must have a minimum of eight years of progressive administrative experience providing support services for students, preferably in an urban, multi-cultural higher education setting. Must have experience training and supervising staff in relevant areas. A wide range of knowledge of relevant community services and resources is expected. He/She must have effective interpersonal and organizational skills, a demonstrated capability to function as a team player and the ability to work with various constituents on campus. Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English is desirable.
